The Verdant Cage

In the dystopian thriller The Verdant Cage by Jess Lourey, the massive stone Wall surrounding Noah’s Valley is supposed to be a shield. For seventeen-year-old Rose Allgood, it has always represented safety and peace. In the Valley, people don't fight, they don't leave, and they certainly don't ask questions.

That illusion of paradise shatters when Rose’s mother is murdered—the first killing the Valley has ever seen. When the authorities quickly blame and condemn her twin brother, Rose knows something is wrong. As an apothecary, she is used to looking for cures, but now she is hunting for a killer.

Her investigation leads her down a dangerous path of forbidden knowledge and secret messages. Rose begins to realize that her mother’s death was part of a much larger, darker conspiracy. The terrifying truth becomes clear: the Wall was never built to protect the citizens from the outside world. It was designed to keep them trapped inside a living nightmare. Rose must decide how much she is willing to risk to expose the lie and save what’s left of her family.
